FFrandonnée is a recognised public utility association. Approved by the Ministry for Health and Sports and the Ministry for Ecology, its main missions are that of promoting the practice of hiking and its various forms, training leaders, markers and directors, to inform those who take part and to represent their interests to public authorities, to create, mark and maintain the hiking itinerary networks. In 2011, it had 220,000 members, 3350 clubs, 20,000 volunteers including 6000 official markers who maintain a set of 180,000 km of routes marked, in particular the GR®s. LFAJ and FFRandonnée are linked by a partnership agreement that allows licensed hikers to stay in LFAJ Youth Hostels at preferential rates.
The Ministry for National Education and Associative Life ensures that the interministerial plan, in accordance with the mission entrusted to the Minister in charge of youth, coordination of actions in favour of associative life, includes promotion of volunteering and benevolent associative engagement.
He directs relations with the national youth and education federations and associations. He encourages promotion of voluntary benevolent associative engagement.
The Ministry supports LFAJ in its educational actions through an annual subsidy.
